Bastyr University Chapel
14500 Juanita Drive NE
Kenmore, WA
(425) 602-3075
"The Bastyr University Chapel is an ideal setting for weddings.
The Bastyr University Chapel is on the campus of Bastyr University,
an internationally acclaimed university in natural health care.
The facility rests on 50 acres of fields and woodlands on the
northeast shore of Lake Washington, just 10 miles from downtown
Seattle and Bellevue. The university is adjacent to the beautiful
316-acre St. Edward State Park, comprised of evergreen forests,
streams and including secluded beach access to Lake Washington.
Miles of nature trails wind through much of the park. Bastyr
University’s exquisite European-style chapel was created
with the highest quality workmanship available in 1958 and continues
to radiate the devotion with which it was built. Nearly five
stories in height and 140 feet long, it is home to 36 hand-crafted
stained glass windows and brilliant glass mosaic artwork depicting
various religious themes, hand-crafted altars and columns of
foreign marbles, terrazzo floors, wooden pews, oak paneling and
a choir loft. The carved wooden pews run length-wise along the
chapel, making the procession of the bride and groom a truly
spectacular site for all in attendance. The chapel and choir
loft combined can comfortably seat up to 450 people. Both members
of the Bastyr Community and the public may rent the chapel for
weddings. If you are not a student, staff or faculty member,
you are eligible to hold your wedding here by contributing to
the university at the Partners In Healing level of $250 or above.
A contribution at the $250 level is already included in the rates
(see rates page). Your contribution is tax deductible. Support
for the university at this level entitles you to other benefits
as well, (see benefits page) and you will receive our quarterly
newsletter, the Source, where you will be recognized for your
support. This contribution helps offset operating costs associated
with the upkeep of the building, including the chapel. Although
still owned by the Catholic Archdiocese, formal Catholic services
are no longer performed here. The chapel is now available for
non-sectarian uses, and couples of almost every faith are welcome
to perform their wedding ceremonies here. Each couple is responsible
for finding an appropriate Minister or Justice of the Peace to
perform their ceremony. The only restriction, in accordance with
the lease with the Catholic Archdiocese of Seattle, is that Catholic
weddings may not be held in the chapel. Those Catholics who would
like to use the facility must discuss their interest with the
priest at St. John Vianney parish in Kirkland." |
